Non è così comune in acquariofilia come alcuni dei suoi stretti parenti, ma è comunque una bella specie di pesce arcobaleno, che si può facilmente confondere con la specie molto simile Melanotaenia duboulayi.
Dimensioni max: 11 cm SL i maschi, 7 cm SL le femmine
Aspettativa di vita: 5 - 8 anni
Temperatura: 22 - 25°C
